Description

Mkomazi wilderness retreat : Mkomazi Wilderness Retreat is the only luxury camp in Mkomazi National Park — seven tents perched on Dindira Hill overlooking the park’s largest waterhole and the horizon beyond, where Kilimanjaro’s summit is visible on clear mornings. The camp delivers “a little bit of luxury and a whole lot of wild” in one of Tanzania’s most pristine off-the-beaten-track destinations.

The handcrafted teak-furnished tents combine canvas and stone with a natural palette — king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms with rain showers, private decks with sweeping savannah views. At night, guests hear lions roar and elephants at the waterhole below. The park is dubbed “Tanzania’s Home of the Black Rhinos” — two sanctuaries (Mbula and Kisima) protect critically endangered black rhinos that guests can visit.

The camp’s organic farm supplies fresh ingredients to a kitchen that earns consistent rave reviews. Reviewers call it “my favourite property of my entire safari” and “a little gem.” Priced at $330–390 per night, meals included. “Spot the vulturine guineafowl” — a striking bird found in the Mkomazi area and rarely elsewhere in Tanzania.
